Awards Watch - The Tony Awards

Last night’s Tony Awards recognized the best of Broadway with a glamorous ceremony chuck full of stars and guest performances.  Held at the Beacon Theater in New York City, awards were presented to stage actors, directors, and designers from all areas of production.  Broadway stars and other celebrities walked the red carpet before the event, showing off stylish fashions.

The Book of Mormon cast opened the show with Broadway hit “Hello,” pulling host Neil Patrick Harris on stage for the last few notes.  Highlights of the night included cast performances from The Newsies, Godspell, Leap of Faith, Ghost, Follies and more.  Neil Patrick Harris’ classic Broadway songs mash-up was a hit for the showtune-loving crowd and his musical recap of the night after all of the awards had been presented concluded the broadcast.  Singer Sheryl Crow was one of the many celebrity presenters, notably making her first public appearance since announcing she has a benign brain tumor.  Play of the year went to Clybourne Park, while musical of the year was snatched up by Once.
