We're sure everyone already knows about the mix-up that happened during the Miss Universe 2015 pageant, as it was all over the news and left Miss Columbia understandably devastated. We certainly feel for Miss Columbia, and the new Miss Universe 2015, Pia Wurtzbach (former Miss Philippines), does, too. She wrote a touching Facebook post on the Miss Universe Facebook page acknowledging Miss Columbia, Ariadna Gutierrez, for her amazing job throughout the pageant and pleading for peace amongst those still bickering about what happened during the pageant. Check it out below.

This year's Miss Universe pageant was quite the event! The whole pageant was full of memorable moments, but the moment that stuck out was undoubtedly the end, and it wasn't just for who was crowned the winner, but for how it happened.
Miss Columbia, Ariadna Gutierrez, was named Miss Universe 2015... but not for long. Miss Universe host Steve Harvey had a big correction to make, as he named the wrong person as Miss Universe 2015! The real winner, and our official new Miss Universe 2015 is Miss Philippines, Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach. Steve was very apologetic for the response, and we totally feel for him. Check out what happened in the clip below.
It would have been quite the nite for Miss Columbia, too, as that would have meant a 2-peat since Miss Columbia 2014, Paulina Vega, won Miss America 2014 last year! Miss Philippines, Pia, was absolutely incredible all night, though, so she obviously deserves the crown. Continue reading
Every year, Pantone chooses and announces the special Pantone Color of the Year, a moment that the design and fashion world anxiously anticipates and waits for towards the beginning of the new year. The color Pantone chooses becomes a staple choice in fashion in the year to come, so it's an important moment for many in the art and design world, from fashion designers, to makeup and beauty artists, to interior designers, to of course the every day fashionista. Only one color, out of an endless amount of beautiful colors, is chosen to represent the coming year, so the meaning it holds is an important one.
This year, for the first year ever, Pantone announced two colors for the 2016 Pantone Color of the Year! With such a huge break from the norm, Pantone of course did so with good reason. In a world that feels more and more difficult to comprehend sometimes, Pantone chose two colors that represent a sense of balance and peace to help "consumers seek mindfulness and well-being as an antidote to the stress of modern day lives." The colors they chose are Rose Quartz (PANTONE 13-1520) and Serenity (15-3919), "a harmonious pairing of inviting shades that embody a mindset of tranquility and inner peace."
Pantone further explained that the light pink Rose Quartz, "is a persuasive yet gentile tone that conveys compassion and a sense of composure," and the cool blue Serenity, "comforts with a calming effect, bringing feelings of respite and relaxation even in turbulent times."
You can watch the two colors in action in their video to announce the Pantone Color of the Year 2016:
One of the reasons that they chose these two colors if for their duality and a statement for the need of gender norms to change when it comes to color and design. Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute, explained in the official press release, "In many parts of the world we are experiencing a gender blur as it relates to fashion, which has in turn impacted color trends throughout all other areas of design. This more unilateral approach to color is coinciding with societal movements towards gender equality and fluidity."
We can certainly get behind these 2016 Colors of the Year, not only because of their special meaning, but because they are two colors that are seen prominently in prom dresses! Whether on their own or paired together through patterns like floral prints and color blocks, these are two staple hues of prom. And now when you wear them, they'll have a special meaning, too! Search through our pink prom dresses and blue prom dresses to get your very own ideas on how to rock the colors - you'll find many in both sections that incorporate the two colors together. If you love this look and want to get it for prom, definitely check out the new Sherri Hill Prom 2016 dresses. The dress designer is using these two colors both as separates and together in many unique ways. One of our favorites is Sherri Hill 50466, a color blocked two piece gown that features a light pink top and light blue skirt. This dress certainly couldn't invoke the 2016 Pantone Colors of the Year in a better way!
If you love this dress and the idea of rocking pink and blue, but like darker colors more, this dress also comes in a Royal/Fuchsia color combo - the top is blue and the bottom is pink in this case. It's a great way to represent Pantone's 2016 color choices and meaning at prom or your next formal event, but through your very own interpretation.
The color combination of Rose Quartz and Serenity has a great meaning behind it, so wear the colors proudly through the new year, and many years to come!
If you have curly or frizzy, thick hair, getting your hair to look how you want can be a nightmare and take way too much time. The process of trying to tame the mane is a long one, starting with blowdrying, and ending with flat ironing your hair in small sections, over and over again. It certainly makes just throwing your hair up into a bun or ponytail seem like the only real option. But, always having your hair up in a ponytail holder isn't good for your locks!
Fret not, though - a brand new tool is here to make straightening your hair oh-so-easy. The geniuses of DAFNI invented an innovative new hot tool for your hair that's a combination of a brush and straightener! According to its website, DAFNI is a "revolutionary hair straightening brush. Simply brush your hair and it will be straight and smooth in minutes. No-fuss, no clips."
Sounds too good to be true, right? Check out the video below of DAFNI's co-founder Sharon Rabi using the brush (who has incredibly thick, curly hair!) to see the amazingness in action.
It certainly looks like a quick way to get your hair style-perfect in a short amount of time. Just think... more time sleeping before needing to get to school or work! And, more time picking out that perfect outfit and doing your make-up before a night out with the girls or going on a date. It could certainly make a DIY prom, homecoming, or holiday party hairstyle a lot easier! Continue reading
With Homecoming Season here, there's a lot more that goes into being ready for your homecoming dance other than finding the perfect homecoming dress, shoes, and accessories. There's also the age-old tradition of choosing your high school's homecoming king and queen, of course!
Well, this tradition has been given a new spin by a Wisconsin high school - this year Madison West High School in Madison, Wisconsin are starting a new tradition of a gender-neutral alternative for their homecoming court. Instead of electing a homecoming king and queen, students can nominate 20 student who they feel best represent Madison West High School, and two students will be chosen "Regent Royalty," regardless of gender. The name comes from their school mascot, which is the Regent.
WMTV explained that this progressive idea was thought up last year, when it was proposed by Madison West High School Gay Straight Alliance members Arwen Sadler and Kate Scholz. And, they worked hard to see their vision through. Students at the high school collected almost 1,000 signatures from students and teachers who supported a more inclusive method for choosing homecoming court nominees. Their hard work paid off, because Homecoming 2015 is the first year this new homecoming policy will be put into place. Continue reading
Our favorite dress designers are taking over the Miss America pageant left and right! Just last year, we had announced that Tony Bowls was the Official Evening Gown Sponsor for Miss America 2015. Well, we have a new surprise for the Miss America 2016 Pageant: organizers of the competition recently announced that Sherri Hill will be the event's official gown sponsor!
The designer's dresses will be featured during the live broadcast of the 95th Annual Miss America Competition in Rissy Roo's very own hometown of Atlantic City, New Jersey. The 2016 Miss America Competition will air on Sunday, September 13, on ABC-TV, so make sure not to miss out. Amongst getting to wear the crown and represent Miss America in various ways for an entire year, this year's winner will also wear Sherri Hill dresses to the various events and public appearances she attends throughout the year. Rocking Sherri Hill is definitely a perfect way to compliment any crown. Miss America 2015, Kira Kazantesev, certainly rocks Sherri Hill perfectly in the photo below, even without her crown on! Lots of planning goes into promposals these days, and you can only hope for the best when it's time to pop the question. Most promposals go down without a hitch, as many times it's a boyfriend or girlfriend asking their significant other in a cute way to prom. But, there are cases where the proposer doesn't know if the proposee will actually be accepting, and this is one example of that.

This high schooler went for a daring prom proposal - asking the girl he hoped to go to prom with in front of an entire football stadium full of people. He must have thought this promposal was in the bag, but that it was not! After the high schooler asks his hopeful date over the microphone if she'll go to prom with him, he was let down anything but gently as the girl responds in the microphone, "I already have a date." Awww! You can tell the high schooler is shocked by his response, and we can't blame him.
How the word didn't get around that the girl already got a date is beyond me! That's what friends are supposed to be for, after all! Oh well, it might be a promposal gone wrong, but it's certainly something he'll look back on in a few years and get a good laugh out of, if he's not already.
Sadly, this isn't the only promposal fail we stumbled upon this year. For another cringing moment, check out Daniel's promposal fail... to his own girlfriend, of all people!
