  • Kate McKinnon Takes Home Her First Award At The 2016 Emmys

Comedian Kate McKinnon has been taking the media by storm, through her Ellen DeGeneres and Hilary Clinton impressions on Saturday Night Live to her incredible performance in the Ghostbusters re-boot this year. Through all of her hard work and ability to bring joy and laughter to millions of people, she finally took home her first Emmy award at this year's 68th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony! She won the 2016 Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Emmy Award.

While everyone is so happy for her win, people can't stop talking about her acceptance speech. She was so surprised that she blurted out, "I'm shaking!" while giving her speech, and even said that she was crying. She gave the normal "thank you's" to family and those who have helped her within the industry. She gave a shout-out to her now deceased father, explaining that he made her start watching SNL when she was 12. She also managed to fit in thanking the two celebrities that helped bring her to fame: Ellen DeGeneres and Hillary Clinton.

The best part? Hillary Clinton responded on Twitter that she's big fans of Kate, and offered her congratulations! She even posted a meme of Kate doing an impression of Mrs. Clinton. Check out the tweet from the presidential nominee below.  Continue reading

  • Miss America 2017: Miss Arkansas, Savvy Shields!

Even though we're still in awe over Miss America 2016's winning dress, another year has come and gone, and a new Miss America has been crowned! The Miss America 2017 pageant was held this past Sunday in our very own hometown of Atlantic City, NJ. It was certainly a fun event to watch, especially with the presidential election coming up.

While all 51 of the contestants looked beautiful and had the talent and smarts to back up that beauty, Miss Arkansas, Savvy Shields, walked away with the Miss America 2017 crown.

With a first name like Savvy, we expected her to have some savvy skills, and she definitely did! During the talent portion, she put on an amazing jazz routine, which won her the preliminary talent competition earlier in the week.

She was asked a controversial question about Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton during the question-and-answer portion of the competition. The judge asked, "Hillary Rodham Clinton, what do you think?"  Continue reading

  • Demi Lovato Covers Adele's "When We Were Young" At Cleveland Concert

Adele's voice is pure gold. From "Hello" to "Someone Like You," she has an incredible sound to her that most singers, no matter how talented, would never begin to attempt to mimic. Except for one... the talented Demi Lovato, of course. The singer is currently on her tour for "Future Now: The Tour." During her Cleveland performance on Friday, September 2nd, Demi surprised and stunned the audience with a cover of Adele's "When We Were Young."

Youtuber JWBGSU explained that while on stage, Demi explained that she had a special treat for Cleveland and that she wanted to sing one of her favorite songs. But, she had never sung it before. In true Demi fashion, she went on to sing the emotional ballad "When We Were Young," and it was obviously amazing. Check out a video of the performance below.

In just one week, the fan-uploaded video of Demi's performance already has over 700,000 views. A sign of just how incredible Demi's version of Adele's song is.  Continue reading

  • Always Dress "As If"

Don't lie, you've been there before. You're not alone. We've all suffered from that epicly embarrassing fashion fail at one point or another. The type of horrifying moment you couldn't conjure up in your most demonic and disturbing of nightmares. Hopefully, it's well in the past and you've fully recovered. If not, don't crawl in a hole just yet.

With the new year rapidly approaching and a new resolution that would traditionally go with it, I thought today would be an appropriate time to discuss the importance of always being sure to dress your best! I've gotten a head start on my resolution and, as you'll soon find out, for good reason. Perhaps by the time the New Year rolls around, my thought's will resonate and you'll make a resolution of your own; to always be dressed "as if". Dress as if you were being stalked by the paparazzi, as if you were on a reality show and knew the world were watching you, as if you knew you'd be awkwardly stumbling into your ex... and his lovely new fiance.

Whether dressing up for a winter formal, homecoming, a night out with the girls, or, as you'll soon see why, even if you're just walking your dog, it's always important to be conscious of your appearance strive to look your best. After all, you never know who you're going to run into! No matter how hard we try, ghosting ourselves is an impossibility. We've yet to discover a method for achieving invincibility, so accept the inevitable, you're going to be seen. Read on for a short story detailing how and why I finally realized that it's time to make sure I'm always dressed "as if".

    alexander wang quote

Its 7 a.m. and my alarm goes off, echoing the most revolting of noises one could hope to rise and greet a new day with. Not only am I now awake (begrudgingly), but my dog has decided to take a morning stroll upon my face. Time to start my day. First thing's first, time to take the pooch out for his (official) morning walk. As I scramble to find my glasses, and something warm to go for a walk in, the thought never crosses my mind that I will actually be appearing in public. I've just dressed myself in a black and yellow Batman hat, baby blue hoodie, over sized sweatpants, two different color Ugg boots, neon pink gloves, and to top it off, a purple fur coat. (FASHION NO NO!!!) I figured hey, its 7:00 in the morning who am I going to cross paths with at this time. Well, of course, I immediately run into two neighbors (should have seen that one coming), get three honks acknowledging my atrocious ensemble, and here comes the kicker; as I am crossing the street with my dog, I fall flat on my face. Traffic was stopped and a small village gathered to help me get my bearings and make sure I was alright. It was an all around disaster, to say the least!

And, with that 'experience,' I have FINALLY learned my lesson. No matter where I am  going, it is important to understand the likelihood of encountering other human beings... and to dress accordingly. I have no excuse for the outlandish outfit I had put together, considering that my closet is overflowing with adorable hoodies and matching sweatpants. So ladies, common courtesy to the general public, put a little effort into your look. No matter whether walking your dog or having a fun night out with the gal pals.

When it comes to a quick walk outside with Scruffy or a jaunt to the nearest convenience store, there are some easy fashion staples you can always keep in mind to look put-together without much effort at all.

For starters, oversized sunglasses are VERY helpful- not only do they help disguise you, they cover up the bags under your eyes or the smeared makeup you were too tired to wash off from the night before.  Throwing on a pair of leggings or yoga pants is always a cute choice for a fast fashion fix, while still maintaining your level of comfort. As for tops, I love wearing oversized sweatshirts with my leggings... and MATCHING UGG boots, of course! Yeah, pair them up, I assure you the two seconds it could take is much less agonizing than the shame you'll endure while others take notice of the fashion fail.

After my morning shenanigans, I come to the conclusion that it is time to give my Batman hat to my 8 year old cousin. My baggy sweatpants will be worn only in my house and, as for my purple fur coat, there's just no acceptable reason to validate how it ever entered my closet, nonetheless made its way onto my person. I'll try to donate it and, after Goodwill rejects it, I'll toss it in the dumpster to the side of their building.

    Alexander Wang said it best:

"Anyone can get dressed up and glamorous but it is how people dress in their days off that are the most intriguing."

    -Alexander Wang

So, with those ever so slight yet vitally important alterations made, my newfound resolution to "Dress Your Best" is well under way. And, what better way to kick off that resolution than by picking out some cute new digs here at Rissy Roo's

  • Finding The Perfect Pair of Sunglasses

Whenever I think of sunglasses, I always remember that “one hit wonder” from back in the eighties by a band called Timbuk3, “The Future's So Bright," and Corey Hart's famous song "Sunglasses at Night" (also appropriately from the 1980s). Nowadays, buying a new pair of shades is not only about looking cool (and wearing your sunglasses at night), but also about making an investment in your vision and finding the pair that’s just right for you.

You don’t just want to buy any old pair of sunglasses. You want to purchase a pair that block up to 99% of the UV rays that can harm your eyes from too much exposure. You often hear that term, but it's more important than you may think. Protecting your eyes can diminish the chances of developing major vision problems later in life, like macular degeneration.
When I was a teenager, Ray-Ban sunglasses were all the rage and while they’re still available today, there’s literally hundreds (maybe even thousands) of other brand names to choose from. And what about polarized lenses versus traditionally tinted ones, what’s the difference?

    The Truth About Polarized Lenses

Some people think that polarized lenses offer greater protection against UV rays, but the truth is that normal UV protection sunglasses and polarized sunglasses usually both offer UVA and UVB protection. Polarized lenses offer a different type of defense. Simply put, regular sunglasses are designed to block out direct light, while polarized lenses shield against indirect light, especially that reflected from surfaces like water, snow and metal
This would obviously make a difference for someone who worked on a boat or at a ski lodge. But there’s also some drawbacks to these lenses. First and foremost, they tend to be more expensive. These types of lenses can also make it difficult to view certain types of electronic screens, such as computers, tablets, or a TV. With that said, if you're playing an outdoor sport, the polarized lens can be a great accessory for clear vision.  Continue reading

  • Six In The City Star Kendall Beaulieu At The Teen Choice Awards

If you've ever watched the show Six in the City, you know it's full of some very talented girls. No, we don't mean Carrie Bradshaw, Samantha, Charlotte, and Maranda from Sex and the City. Six in the City is its own TV series. It's a reality TV show, to be exact, about six girls who lead normal lives at home, but also have amazing modeling and acting careers in NYC. What sounds special about that, you ask? These girls are all just kids!

One of the girls that stars in the show is Kendall Beaulieu, an 8 year old model and actress. If you've ever checked out her Facebook page, you'll know that she not only loves being in the city, but also enjoys spending time with her BFF, dancing, and playing soccer.

Kendall's an eight year old gal on the move. Not only is she a big model and actress in NYC, but she recently got to attend the 2016 Teen Choice Awards in Los Angeles, CA this past Sunday, July 31st. While we love watching the award ceremonies, of course the first thing on our mind is always the red carpet looks. So, what could you imagine that Kendall wore on the famous blue carpet? A dress from Rissy Roo's, of course!

Since Kendall and her family live on the East Coast, close to our store in Linwood, New Jersey, her and her mom, Korrie, stopped by to pick out a dress for her big event. Being the 8 year old that she is, she instantly gravitated to the Lexi by Mon Cheri collection, dresses that designer Mon Cheri specifically created for girls that are Kendall's age! The Six in the City star picked out the pretty two-piece dress Lexi by Mon Cheri TW11663. It's a sleeveless ombre number that features a hand-beaded satin cropped top.  Continue reading
